For several of their Halloween shows over the past years, Phish has been known to don a musical “costume” by covering an entire album from their favorite bands. It all started in 1994 with The Beatles’ White Album, the Talking Heads’ Remain in Light in 1996 and Velvet Underground’s Loaded in 1998.

To mark their first Halloween show back after a five year break, the band announced before hand that they would continue the album cover tradition. Since the band has returned, they have done a great job of utilizing social media by sending live setlist updates via Twitter, and posting photos on Flickr. On their own domain, Phish has built elaborate Flash sites to tease fans about future dates, and most recently what album they would cover on Halloween.

The Halloween Set minisite displays 99 album covers spanning bands like Led Zeppelin, and David Bowie to MGMT and Michael Jackson. Each day, a different album was “murdered” by axe or other sharp object, until the date of the show. The album the band played on 10/31/09 ended up being the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St.

The video above is an incredible mashup of tracks from the 99 different albums Phish had originally chosen.

The Philadelphia Phillies are heading back to the Bronx for another chance with the Yankees. Was literally biting my fingers off in that 9th inning.

I want to give a shout out to the fantastic Phillies blogs The 700 Level, The Fightins, and Phinally Philly. These guys have been absolutely tearing it up with coverage, commentary, down right awesome content.

I can’t figure out if this is a joke or not. These swine flu fighting cocktails are featured In today’s issue of Urban Daddy. Supposedly served at Drop Off Service in the East Village, each cocktail combines liquor, herbs, and over the counter medicines to help ward off disease. Drinks include an Airborne-infused Hot Toddy and Ricola whiskey soda, amongst others.

Can anyone confirm that these drinks are actually obtainable at the bar? If not, the post includes all of the ingredients for flu fighting fun at home.

Apple’s iTunes Pitch: TV for $30 a Month

Peter Kafka writes of rumors swirling around Apple pitching TV networks on the idea of a subscription iTunes service. In the past, people have focused on a music subscription service from Apple, which obviously has been in the planning stages, but has faced a lot of push back from the recording industry. TV shows on the other hand, make perfect sense - iTunes currently hosts the latest episodes and seasons from almost all of the large networks and cable channels.

Would you pay for a service like this? The $30 price tag is definitely a sweet spot to be, compared to the $60 plus that Comcast, Time Warner, and Verizon charge for basic service. On the other hand Netflix, who has a growing catalog of television shows, offers unlimited instant online viewing with all of their plans, the cheapest at $8.99/month.

The good thing is that the pricing scheme wouldn’t vary between network and premium channels, as episodes are the same price across the board from iTunes. For me this would be perfect, as I’m not a channel surfer; right now I DVR my favorite shows, and watch them when I have the time. Still, this wouldn’t cover live news, and sports, two very important things to consider.

Kafka mentions that Disney is a frontrunner in the talks with Apple; not a surprise considering Steve Jobs is the single largest individual shareholder, owning more than 7% of the company. A partnership with Disney would be a great starting point, as they own ABC, ESPN, and manage several other networks including A&E and Lifetime.

Interested to see where things go with this — on demand online content is slowly convincing consumers to ditch their cable boxes.
